SKOGAFOSS
This is the waterfall that brought us to Iceland in the first place: Fabio and I were watching the TV show, Vikings. In the show Floki discovered this new amazing and picturesque new world and we said "heeey, we HAVE TO go there!". We searched where is this place and started to organize a trip to Iceland. I have no words describing the divineness of this natural masterpiece.
BLACK SAND BEACH
I like the sea. I like beaches. I like them in summer to take a bath, I like them in winter just to stare for hours and breath the breeze in. In Iceland, you should think about all these concept and multiply it with a hundred - and I am being modest here. Mixing the summer season with winter, having an ocean instead of the sea and exchanging the gold sand colors with black gives out a view that is beyond comprehension!
REYNISDRANGAR
If you are not convinced by how amazing observing the ocean from gorgeous black sand beach, I give you just another spot, including a mind blowing rock formation at the shore. Reynisdrangar cliff is situated around the city of Vik and Mt. Reynisfjall. The natural formation of this mountain is an amazing hot spot for tourists to visit how amazing and cruel can the nature get. Plus, if you are lucky you can get to see some puffins flying around.
DIAMOND BEACH
If you are STILL not convinced by the incredible rock formations in Reynisdrangar, I give you the diamond beach. Just another black sand beach on the exact spot where one of the most popular iceberg lagoon reaches the ocean. From the Jokulsarlon ice lagoon, mobile icebergs, which already fell from the glacier and got into the motion with the flow, reach the ocean and sometimes hit the shore and stay there until they melt. These ice parts cause the black sand beach shine under the sun - well, like a diamond and this is where the name comes from. Just take your time, sit down and enjoy your time watching the icebergs float over the ocean.. So magical!
FJALLSARLON and JOKULSARLON
Even though the name "Iceland" does not come from "the land of Ice", ice is what we expect! Iceland is full of glaciers and ice lagoons, but our two favorites are Fjallsarlon and Jokulsarlon. Both ice lagoons are full of floating icebergs that fall from the edge of the glaciers. In both of them, you can have a boat tour around, where you get informed about the formation of these lakes and their history, while you can get to touch a miniature iceberg and even taste a piece of 1000 year of ice!
DC3 PLANE CRASH SITE
In the 70s, an American military plane crashed the black sand beach at the south coast in Iceland. Strangely, the reason of the crash was not very clear but luckily, everyone on board managed to get out from the crash safe and sound. After the crash, noone came to clean up the crash somehow and lately, it became one of the hippest destination for travelers, since the weird sensation of a plane crash somehow goes along with mystical black desert and foggy skies.
