Bavaria Itinerary

We decided to celebrate the New Years Eve for 2018 doing a Baverian trip because it was surprisingly cheap and the cheaper option compared to all of our other options. So, here are our highlights:

MUNICH:

We took an Air Dolomiti flight directly from Bari to Munich. It was kinda cheap but the best part was the little snacks we got during the flight (yey!). The only confusion I had was regarding the cabin luggage limits: the website repeatedly says that having an economy ticket allows me to bring only the cabin luggage and no hand bags or personal items were allowed for free but could be purchased with an additional fee. Yet, we could never purchased that additional bag and at the airport the officers told us that we could have the personal items as an extra. In the end, everything got perfect during the flight - a bit confusing before.

Once in Munich, we had a long walk during the night and enjoyed amazing hot dogs and glasses of mulled wine in the Christmas markets - so, even though the Christmas markets are expected to be closed right after the Christmas, you can still find some around the New Years Eve. Enjoy the street celebrations and crazy fireworks without spending a lot of money.

We observed that the next day (1st of January) most of the restaurants and museums might be closed - so preferred to enjoy the toy museum, the surfers in the park, the bell tower, the noon attraction of the duomo, the parliament building, the HB house and some other beer gardens.

FUSSEN AND NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE:

What brought us to Munich and even Germany was to see the famous Neuschwanstein Castle. We actually had some doubts whether it will be easy or worth in winter but it turns out it was completely amazing!

So, we decided to have a daily trip there to visit the castle itself and walk around the mountain and the lake.

Do not forget to spend 1 hour in a cute Baverian town called Fussen on the way back to Munich.

NUREMBERG:

We decided to move to Nuremberg in our 4th day to change the mood a little bit. The train from Munich to Nuremberg took about 1 hour - so it is also possible to have a daily trip here, but since everything is cheaper in Nuremberg compared to Munich, we spent a night here.

We visited the old town, the castle and the riverside and spent some time shopping after enjoying lots of German sausages. Even if you do nothing, the little streets around the town are charming.

FRANKFURT:

Day 5 was to move to Frankfurt with train - since it is where we should go back to Pisa from. The most impressing part of Frankfurt was the Romer square and the cute architecture around it. Even though it is one of the most touristic region of the whole city, the places around make affordable and delicious hot dogs and beer, that you can enjoy as you watch people pass by.

Even though Romer square is the most famous place to explore, also the riverside is amazing to spend some time and appreciate the harmony of old and new architecture styles.

Enjoy!
